Odds on the Tiger Woods-Phil Mickelson $10-Million Heads-Up Match

Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson of the United States talk during a practice round prior to the start of the 2018 Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club on April 3, 2018 in Augusta, Georgia.

Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson are two of the most famous golfers to ever swing a club, and now the longtime rivals will officially do battle in a winner-take-all exhibition match for $10 million. Odds are out on which man will emerge triumphant, with Woods as the heavy favorite.

‘The Match’ will be played in Las Vegas over Thanksgiving weekend.

Woods is listed as the -170 front-runner at BetOnline, with Mickelson coming back as the +150 underdog. The one-on-one clash has been rumored since May, but it was announced in early August it’s now happening as a showdown that’s been unofficially dubbed as “The Match.” Tiger and Phil will play over Thanksgiving weekend in Las Vegas at Shadow Creek Golf Club, and according to Golf Digest, it won’t be a one-time event. Per the report, the two men are planning to create “a series of high-stakes head-to-head matches featuring many of the world’s top-ranked players, perhaps occurring twice per year – once around July 4 and once at Thanksgiving.”

Props galore

As far as betting interest goes, the event is going to be a massive draw, and the sportsbook has released a litany of prop specials as a result. You can bet on the shirt colors for both Woods and Mickelson, with white being the +150 favorite for Phil and any other color besides red, white or black the likeliest option for Tiger at +150 odds. There is also a spread for bettors who are looking for something different, as Mickelson +1.5 is priced at -140 and Woods -1.5 is priced at +110.

‘The Match’ is a long time coming

Woods and Mickelson’s rivalry is well documented and has been contentious at many points in their careers, but the pair have clearly warmed up to each other in recent years. The men have been operating as permanent members in a Ryder Cup committee to provide the American contingent stability for years to come, and Mickelson was very supportive of his peer in Eldrick’s recent return from numerous injuries.

While Woods and Mickelson have seemingly mended fences and are on good terms these days, the drama, bragging rights and extremely high stakes of the one-on-one match will be unlike anything the golfing world has ever seen before. Who do you think is going to win? Have your say in the comments.
